Texas-Based Uhuru Academy Hosts 3rd Annual Community Kwanzaa Celebration


The Uhuru Academy is proud to announce that we will be hosting the Community Kwanzaa Celebration 2016! The Community Kwanzaa Celebration is a seven-day event where we celebrate each night of Kwanzaa at a Black-owned venue/business, discuss issues important to our community, and to launch and begin raising funds for the Uhuru Academy Campus Construction Project.

Monday 12/26/16:

Location: Next 2 the Stage 4612 Grandbury Rd. Ft. Worth, TX 76133 from 6:30pm - 8:00pm

Principle: Umoja (Unity)

Theme/Activity: Overview of Kwanzaa/ Baba Amin Lecture: Black Love is Black Power/Candle lighting ceremony

Tuesday 12/27/16:

Location: The Uhuru Academy 4612 Grandbury Rd., Ft. Worth, TX 76133 from 6:30pm - 8:00pm

Principle: Kujichagulia (Self Determination)

Theme/Activity: Overview of Kujichagulia/ Black Education Think Tank/ Candle Lighting

Wednesday 12/28/16:

Location: Muhammad Mosque #52 1431 Evans Ave., Ft. Worth, Tx 76104 from 6:30pm - 8:00pm

Principle: Ujima (Collective Work and Responsibility)

Theme/Activity: Overview of Ujima/ Community Forum on Black Empowerment/ Candle Lighting

Thursday 12/29/16:

Location: Sankofa Kitchen 3333 W. Camp Wisdom Rd. #118 Dallas, TX 75237 from 8:00pm - 10:00pm

Principle: Ujamaa (Cooperative Economics)

Theme/Activity: Uhuru Academy Fundraising Dinner. Introduce people to the Uhuru Academy and our mission, portion of proceeds from each meal goes to Uhuru Academy…Candle Lighting

Friday 12/30/16:

Location: Arthouse Gallery & Urban Hangout 2912 E. Rosedale St., Ft. Worth, TX 76105 from 6:30pm - 9:00pm

Principle: Nia (Purpose)

Theme/Activity: Uhuru Academy Vision Development “Talent Show” where some of our students give a formal, detailed presentation based on their vision development projects, we feature youth talent (Voices of Afrika, etc.), and allow youth to vend food (Addofo) and art (Vincent). Candle Lighting

Saturday 12/31/16:

Location: Next 2 the Stage/Uhuru Academy 4612 Grandbury Rd., Ft. Worth, TX 76133 (6:00pm - 8:00pm)

Principle: Kuumba (Creativity)

Theme/Activity: The Uhuru Academy Kwanzaa Banquet: “A Taste of Afrika”/ Live entertainment/ Honoring our supporters and community partners past and present/ fundraising banquet $20 per ticket pre-sale. $25 plate at the door…

Sunday 1/1/17:

Location: Aletheia Temple Church 2701 Village Creek Rd., Ft. Worth, TX 76105 from (11:00am - 2:00pm)

Principle: Imani (Faith)

Theme/Activity: They will have their church service then Karamu feast immediately after...candle lighting.
